36TH INTER-COLLEGIATE MODEL LOK SABHA COMPETITION

The YMCA Bangalore and Rotary Bangalore Peenya, jointly organised the “36th Inter Collegiate Model Lok Sabha Competition” on 6th and 7th November 2025, with approximately 300 student participants. The competition was inaugurated on 6th November and concluded with a valedictory function on 7th November  at 4:30 p.m at YMCA Bangalore. Hon’ble Sri. S. Suresh Kumar, MLA & Former Minister, Rajajinagar Assembly Constituency, Karnataka was the chief guest. Certificates to all the participants, trophies, and cash prizes were awarded to winners, runners-up, and outstanding performers.

ONE- DAY RELIGIOUS VISIT.

The YMCA Bangalore, in collaboration with the SCMI Bangalore, hosted a one-day religious visit programme on the theme “Exploring Faith and Harmony,” on 31st October 2025 from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Participants included 31 students and lecturers from five colleges. The event was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. P. Sethu, President of YMCA Bangalore, who lit a ceremonial lamp alongside prominent speakers, Dr. Denzil Fernandez S.J. and Swamy Soukhyananda, who emphasized interfaith understanding and the promotion of peace.

The programme included visits to several religious sites: Ramakrishna Ashram, Maha Bodhi Society, Shri Swethambara Jain Temple, Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, and Masjid-E-Khadria, concluding at YMCA Bangalore by 4:00 p.m. A valedictory session featured presentations of mementoes by Dr. Daniel Rathnakar. J, General Secretary of YMCA Bangalore and Dr. Maleques, Principal of the College of Physical Education, YMCA Bangalore, recognizing the participating colleges.

CAREER AND SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOP

A one day workshop on “Career and Skill Building” was held at City YMCA on the 20th September 2025. The workshop was attended by Twenty five degree level students from Five different colleges from different streams. Mr. Ajith P.C (Life skill Coach, Soft Skills & Language Trainer; Director – Triumph Education Centre, Kottayam, Kerala) was the Resource Person. Dr. Daniel Rathnakar J, General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore delivered the Welcome Address. The workshop was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. P. Sethu, President YMCA Bangalore in the presence of Dr. Daniel Rathnakar J., General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore and Dr. Maleques Arokyanathan, Principal, YMCA College of Physical Education. Mr. C. Ramenglien Traite, Trainee Secretary, YMCA Bangalore gave a brief overview of the workshop.

The workshop addressed three key components: writing resumes with a focus on AI literacy and useful websites, enhancing communication skills, and preparing for interviews, which included a mock interview session. Participants provided feedback on their experiences, and the workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony.

OFF -GRID PROGRAMME

The YMCA Bangalore organised Off-Grid program on 28.09.2024 at the City YMCA. 37 participants from different colleges were registered in the programme. The main aim of the programme is to create awareness among youth that how young people should use their devices/gadgets responsibly and sensibly.Mr. shekar Veeraswamy, Asst Coach, KSLTA, International Wheel chair Tennis player was the chief guest. The programme was packed with fun-filled intellectual and physical activities that are also educational and recreational.Following the activities, a feedback session was conducted and prizes were distributed with an Off-Grid badge as a souvenir.

Elocution Competition

On the 14th December 2024 at 10:00 a.m, the Zonal preliminary round of the XXXVII National Inter-School Elocution Competition for the Sam T. Berkeley-Hill Memorial Trophy Competition was held at City YMCA, Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore. The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Jeba Jyothi, Member of the Board, YMCA Bangalore. Dr. Daniel Rathnakar J, General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore welcomed the students. Rev. Inbaraj Jeyakumar ,Vice President, YMCA Bangalore was the Chief Guest at the valedictory ceremony. 19 schools participated at the competition and all the children were awarded participation certificate. The finals were held at YMCA Bombay.

Intercollegiate Debate Competition

The “Inter Collegiate English Debate Competition for the award of Sir C.V. Raman and Kannada Debate for the award of Prof. T. Reuben Memorial Trophy” for P.U. College students was jointly organised by YMCA Bangalore and Rotary Peenya Bangalore on Friday, 31st January 2025 at City YMCA, Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore. Rtn.K.S. Ashwathnaryana, President of Rotary Peenya, Bangalore was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the Programme.   Mr. Nelson Xavier, Member of the Board, YMCA Bangalore presided the inaugural programme. 13 colleges participated in the competition. Dr. Selvaraj, Director, Youth Service, Rotary Peenya Bangalore, was the Chief Guest for this valedictory function along with Dr. Daniel Rathnakar, General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore,  Rtn.K. Suresh, Past President/Board advisor, Rotary Peenya Bangalore. The winners and runners-up received cash prizes and trophies, while others were awarded participation certificates
